Synopsis: | Stephen Mills, a successful author, writes a book based on stories from his homeland, the mythical Rangan, and its religion of Mingianism. He wins a coveted literary prize and is sentenced to death by the High Priest of Rangan because of an alleged blasphemous passage contained within the book. There follows a high-profile debate between secularism and religious fundamentalism about the offence caused by the attack on a deeply held faith. Based very loosely on the Salman Rushdie affair the play raises issues of racial intolerance, freedom of expression and the role of religion in society in a thought-provoking but entertaining way. | |||||
