Notes:

The Grammar of Love is presented as a part of FiRST BiTES: TRANSGRESSiONS, Oval House Theatre's ongoing series of seasons of work in development, presented as works-in-progress. FiRST BiTES TRANSGRESSiONS dissect gender and what creates it; sexuality and how it is expressed; and theatre and what it can be.

Synopsis:

At the Joy School of English in Tokyo, getting your message across isn't always easy. But through a clash of different languages and cultures, east and west begin to feel their way towards each other. Kate teaches Akiko English grammar while Akiko teaches Kate the art of tea-making. The tea in the pot is stirred. The leaves and the water, which were once apart, are bound together, and now something new is created, something other. After this moment they can never return to being the water and the leaves they were before. They can never be separated again. The Grammar of Love is an erotically charged love story between two women across the cultural divide. It is a tale full of beauty and heart which reaches towards the difficult truths about how we live and love.
