Neil O'Sullivan has been writing seriously since 1990, when aged 26, and at a pivotal moment in the development of his tender psyche, he had his tarot cards read. Acting like an automaton, impelled by forces beyond the Ken (and indeed beyond the Barbie) of normal human consciousness, he felt certain his earth shattering genius would save the world. Finding that the world had already been saved by Bono, Neil, though somewhat crushed, persisted. Eschewing his marginally lucrative non-career as a software developer in favour of the poetic muse, at a time when the poetic muse could not have been less relevant and a non-career as a software developer could not have been more on the money, Neil displayed the good judgment for which he has since become legendary (in whose lunchtime is anyone's guess). Displaying the iron will and devil take the hindmost attitude of the truly successful, Neil appeared occasionally in dingy pubs at open mike sessions to perform his poetry and occasionally stand up comedy. The world spectacularly failed to take notice. Thence displaying the humility for which he has since become legendary (he really is quite a legend you know) he translated the I Ching from the English (unpublished). Wrote a book of philosophical ruminations entitled, Zen and the Art of Exhaling Carbon Dioxide (unpublished) and a collection of poetry pithily entitled, The Book of Visions, (self published) for which he received the following kind review "He is trying to climb Mount Everest in his shorts and sandals". He subsequently wrote another collection entitled "Skiing up Everest in your Underpants". Faber and Faber were surprisingly unmoved. He has since had a little more luck with the plays.

| Parts: | Male | 1 | Female | - | ||

Notes: | - | |||||
Synopsis: | Gullibles Travels, A tragic comic performance piece, is in no way an oblique comment on the plight of modern man, feeling isolated and powerless in his cubicle of quiet desperation. It does not reflect the fractured consciousness inspired by an ADD afflicted media bombardment. It thoroughly avoids echoing the spiritual malaise of the uncertain man surrounded by nonsensical certainties. Nor, it would like, in closing, does it attempt to shadow the desire to escape from the prison of self through the act imaginative self creation. It in no way fails to do any of this. Not.

Genre: | Horror/Comedy Comedy
| Parts: | Male | 1 | Female | 2 | ||
Parts other: | - | |||||
Notes: | The play was first produced in the context of the Cork Midsummer festival. Reviews - "One of the better plays which premiered this year was Neil O'Sullivans Meat, at the Granary Theatre. Set in 19th Century Victorian London, Meat Features the kind of gratuitous cannibalism and weird sex for which the Victorians seemingly had an insatiable appetitie. This production had everything - high-flown language, complex characters, an inventive set and sound design, and a well thought out plot - to get the audience onside& Not since Martin McDonagh's The Pillow Man has any Irish writer dealt so successfully with such dark materials" - The Irish Examiner.
Synopsis: | Father was not two weeks cut from the gibbet when Mother died of the pox, leaving us to be taken in and cared for in an orphanage, where I was beaten almost skinless on an almost daily basis but very rarely buggered. And that's near the best I can say for it. . . Set at the turn of the 20th century, Meat is a comic/horror/melodrama which delves into the seamy underbelly of upper class Victorian society and reveals the simmering miasma of lust, greed and murder at its heart. It also contains scenes of murder, betrayal, adultery, bisexuality, fellatio, castration, prostitution, pornography, male, female and vegetable sodomy and at least six varieties of drug abuse. . . Not forgetting the psychological torture, epic battle of sexual wits, nudity, poverty, gambling, corruption, embezzlement, political scandal, cannibalism, necrophilia, organized crime and group sex
