One of the main traits that differs Terry McFadden from other more traditional modern playwrights is the sense of musicality and rhythm in the language and dialogue in his plays. Since Terry's first experience in show-business was as a guitar-player before a live audience at age 8, and for many years thereafter, this sense of broken and rhythmic metered cadences permeates every area of his writing. He studied film and writing courses at Penn State but it wasn't until he moved to LA and was forced to park cars at a theatre that the writing fire really overtook him. He began to write scenes and monologues for actors, took courses at UCLA, AFI, Writer's Bootcamp, LACC; studying story and structure and then getting a job as a Story Analyst for two production companies. An ardent David Mamet fan, Terry loves to experiment with language and form and his plays were soon being produced at several theatres throughout LA in the 90's. To date, Terry's diverse plays have been produced more than 40 times in over a dozen LA and surrounding area venues, NY, Chicago, North Carolina and more. His One Act play, SHIFT-CHANGE, was the winner of the Cruthaigh Productions One Act Play Festival in Santa Monica. Another striking characteristic of Terry's writing is that all of his plays are all ensemble pieces--all characters are main characters and have pretty much equal time. He focuses on strong visible goals, universal main themes in very specific worlds, and all with their own distinct psychological thematic undertones. He has also written several screenplays and works as a musician as well.

Synopsis: | Stained Glass is a Psycho-dramedy about four men-less women who continue to share their triumphs and tragedies at the gathering of their weekly color therapy session. On the surface it would appear that these women have very little in common other than being minus a man but as the play progresses we'll see their life altering parallels. The story follows Karla's intellectual approach on healing, spirituality and recovery. The focus turns on a dime from one woman to the next each vying for the insight of the moment. The colors do indeed paint this session when these four distinct personalities mix it up. They challenge themselves, they challenge each other, they yell, they curse, they blame, push and cry. The turn of events and the form of the play allow for not only each woman to be the subject of discussion but for each to also play therapist in an ever quickening progression that ultimately peaks with the confessing and simultaneous cleansing of Karla guided by the soothing Rain. | |||||
