Synopsis: | In April 2008 Allan Massie's old friend Simon Gray e-mailed him to say that his cancer was in remission. 'Trouble is' he said, 'I'll now have to find something to write about. Any ideas?' 'Yes,' Allan said, 'There's a story in your last volume of diaries about problems between you and the director and a talented young actor in a New York production of 'Butley'. I think you could make a play out of that.' 'Don't fancy it,' he said, 'why don't you write it?' Changing Lines is Allan's imaginative attempt at doing so and a posthumous tribute to one of the finest writers of his generation. Simon died a few months after handing the idea back to Allan - but of an aneurysm, not his cancer. | |||||
