Synopsis: | Ludwig II of Bavaria reigned from 1864 until just days before his death in 1886. He is best known for his eccentricities and excesses, his extravagant castles and patronage of composer Richard Wagner, and for his mysterious death on Lake Starnberg just days after being locked away. Based on rigorous historical research, this is one of the author's principal works, in which she recreates fragments of the life, death and 'paradise' of this fascinating king, who crisscrossed politics, opera, desire and his descent into madness . . . or his greatest clarity. | |||||
