Brian Lynch was born on 02 Feb 1945. Crooked in the Car Seat is his only stage play. Following its rejection by the Abbey Theatre, the then Script Editor, Hugh Leonard, resigned. Leonard then arranged for the play to be produced by Phyllis Ryan's company Gemini Productions. It was nominated for Harvey's of Bristol Play of the Year, but the award was won by Leonard's play 'Summer'. Lynch subsequently wrote an award-winning Channel 4 and RTE mini-series 'Caught in a Free State' in 1984, and a feature film 'Love and Rage', starring Greta Scacchi and Daniel Craig, directed by Cathal Black in 1998. The film's anti-hero is based on James Lynchehaun, whose crimes inspired John Millington Synge to write 'The Playboy of the Western World'. Lynch has recently (2011) revised 'Crooked in the Car Seat' and has also written an adaptation for the stage of Dostoyevsky's novella 'Notes from Underground'.
