Synopsis: | This is a satire on the Greek legend set to the effervescent music of Jacques Offenbach. Orpheus and Eurydice can't bear each other and when Pluto takes Eurydice to Hades, Public Opinion blackmails Orpheus to seek Jupiter's help to rescue her. But Jupiter falls for Eurydice himself and forces Orpheus to turn around, breaking the deal. But Eurydice has ideas of her own and frustrates all of them in a rousing finale featuring the famous Can-can. The piece was a great success at Stratford and has subsequently toured North America twice and been featured in many productions by university musical-theatre programs in the United States and Canada. | |||||
