Ashraf Johaardien is an internationally acclaimed playwright, performer and arts manager. His award-winning plays have been produced at mainstream theatres and festivals in South Africa, the UK, Ireland and the USA. He grew up in Cape Town and attended the United World College of the Atlanic (UK) and the University of Cape Town. Playwrighting credits include Coloured Son X, Salaam Stories/Salaam, Happy Endings Are Extra, Miracle and Stripped! Highlights as a performer include his solo performance of Ecce Homo! which he adapted from Body Blows: Six Performances by performance artist Tim Miller; the role of the mute street kid in the original production of Suip; and the title role in the South African film Sando to Samantha which has been screened at film festivals in Cape Town, Johannesburg, New York, Toronto, Paris, San Francisco, Chicago, Turin, Adelaide, Bologna, Brussels, Melbourne and Lisbon. He currently resides in Johannesburg South Africa where he is the General Manager of the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT).
