Allston James is the author of three full-length plays. The Pink Brothers, a dramatic comedy, was produced in 2005 at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts in Carmel, California. Two years later, Foreign Women, a drama, was also produced by the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts. In 2009 The Lated Traveler and Foreign Women were both given readings at the Abingdon Theatre Company in New York. The Lated Traveler and The Pink Brothers received earlier readings at the 45th Street Theatre in New York in 2008. The Lated Traveler was a Semi-finalist in Pacific Repertory Theatre's 2009 Hyperion Project Competition. The play was also named Semi-finalist by the 2009 Seven Devils Conference/id Theatre, New York. One act plays were selected for the New York Collective for the Arts Short Plays Festivals in 2004 and 2005. The Dramatists Guild of America selected Duet in Platinum, published in Porter Gulch Review (Santa Cruz), for its Evening of New Works at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale, Arizona. Other shorts and monologues have been staged in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.Allston is the author of the novel, Attic Light, as well as two poetry chapbooks,Paris Beach and The Mile Away Contessa. His fiction and non-fiction have appeared in a wide range of publications and anthologies. He divides time between homes in New York and California.
