Born in 1948, Maureen has led an interesting life in which the publication of her latest book is just the most recent contribution. The Pocket Guide to Plays and Playwrights hit the shelves last week and early indications are that it will outsell its predecessor, The Pocket Guide to Musicals which topped many charts and outsold some of the named biographies released at the same time. For many years, and before the theatre bug took a hold, Maureen was head of English in a secondary school. After that she went on to work as a drama coach on several American films, working with the likes of the legendary George C. Scott & Edward Woodward, and attending Royal Premieres; she has also written eight musicals with her husband Gwyn - all of which have been produced both in the provinces and the West End of London, as well as two in the USA. She has lectured on drama and musical theatre at a College for the Performing Arts in America, been praised by the RSC on radio for her innovative approach to teaching Shakespeare through the medium of theatre, whilst at the same time has written numerous commissioned works for the stage. Now, however, she is concentrating more and more on her 'book' writing career and is at present working on a series of six commissioned books, with two more and a magazine column in the wings.
