Quiara Alegria Hudes. Ms. Hudes' play Elliot, A Soldiers Fugue was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Ms. Hudes' musical In The Heights opened Off-Broadway at 37 Arts and received the Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Musical. In The Heights will transfer to Broadway in the 2007-08 season. Previously, she wrote the play Yemayas Belly, which won the 2004 Clauder Prize, the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting, and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Latino Playwriting Award. Her plays are published by Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts, Inc., and shorter works are anthologized in numerous collections. Ms. Hudes was born and raised in West Philadelphia, received a B.A. in Music Composition from Yale, and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Brown. She is a resident playwright at New Dramatists, and a past recipient of the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship.
