Born in New York City, playwright David Hirson found his love of language first through his parents, character actor Alice Hirson and screenwriter Roger U. Hirson, then later during his education at Yale and Oxford. Hirson's unique style of writing has resulted in two plays, La Bete and Wrong Mountain (2000), both of which have been produced both on Broadway and internationally. His works have received a host of acclaim including multiple Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations, the John Gassner Award of the Outer Critics Circle, and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy in London, among others. Currently working on his third piece, a new version of Die Fledermaus commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, Hirson continues to bring contradiction and conversation to the forefront of modern playwriting.

Elomire finds Valere and his work to be revolting and base, while Bejart, the troupe's second in command, is worried about offending the Prince and, thereby, losing their patron. Valere is a terrible bore, who loves nothing more than the sound of his own voice, which he amply demonstrates at his first entrance, when he delivers an uproariously funny and extended monologue. Elomire, convinced that Valere will never be able to work in an ensemble situation, challenges Valere to pr | |||||
