Notes:

Like "Les Miserables," and "Around the World in Eighty Days," "Pearse" has more than 30 characters. Nevertheless, the historical significance of the importance of the drama requires the need for such numbers.

Synopsis:

An historical drama, PEARSE is written to celebrate Ireland's 100th Anniversary of The military Rising, Easter Monday, 1916. But it is more than that. PEARSE is about a determined man fighting to obtain a goal. Any man or woman who is steadfast on achieving a goal will understand the blood-sacrifice PADRAIC HENRY PEARSE makes to free his country from England's domination. In Act One through five scenes, PEARSE is seen in his formative years. In Act Two, PEARSE is seen as a rebel. While serving as headmaster of St. Edna's, a private school he founded, PEARSE locks onto the rising spirit for Irish nationalism. He is soon transformed in to a hard-line jingoist. Throughout Act Two, Narrator PEARSE, a person detached from PADRAIC, offers insights into PEARSE'S character and his motives for military action. In Act Three, PEARSE is often seen dressed in black. He is a whirlwind of active participation at patriotic meetings and public events. PEARSE'S actions produce the initial inspiration in eventually breaking the English connection.
