Synopsis: | Set inside the mind, three characters confront the difficulties and joys of growing up, meet the challenges of story telling and discover the importance of imagination. They are actors in a play. They are childhood friends. They are characters from the dawn of mythology. They are also stuck. . .As the actors tell and retell the story of the play, creating the world over and over again, their struggle to work together sends each back into their childhood memories. Hidden truths, imaginary friends, first kisses and moments they wish they could forget resurface and collide with the present day and change the story in ways that they could never have imagined. Created in collaboration with Oulu City Theatre, Finland and Teatro O Bando, Portugal Beginning is an exciting mix of story telling and performance for young audiences. Its heady mix of live music, object puppetry and projection takes the audience on a fast paced journey into childhood, relishing the discoveries of growing up, the blurring of fact and fiction and the endless possibilities of the imagination. It is at once a tale of grown ups remembering how to play, children exploring what it means to grow up and friends facing up to the challenges of growing apart. The world of Beginning is a place where stories are allowed to develop at their own speed, where characters are allowed to change and actors are allowed to be real people. It is a place where paper planes fly through the air, silhouettes flicker on the back drop, and at any point any one of the people on stage can take the story down a different path. | |||||
