| Synopsis: | An Elephant in the Room is a contemporary, comic fable about facing one's own demons and coming to terms with living in a society that doesn't always value or support your aspirations. Wally Stern is a middle-aged refrigerator wholesaler working from his warehouse in an inner suburb of Melbourne Wally appears to be the ultimate stoic family and business man who is only too happy to offer his assistance and philosophical insights to those he encounters. But all is never as it seems. Across the hallway is a small studio apartment where Lucy Hamilton lives. Lucy is a struggling young actress, juggling her finances with her aspirations to be a success on stage. Her enthusiasm is contagious, but a series of bad auditions has affected her confidence. Meanwhile, her rent is due. Wally and Lucy work diligently for a life less ordinary but neither is succeeding in the pursuit of their separate passions of Wealth and Art. To add to the intrigue, Wally has found a box containing an old 16mm projector and some reels of black and white film. These turn out to be Indian elephant fables, and each fable provides the subliminal chorus of our unique tale. | |||||
