Theresa Gambacorta (AEA, SAG) has worked in New York as a commercial actress, voice-over artist, director, playwright, and producer for over sixteen years. Her journey with solo performance began in 2004 with her first solo play, LA MAGNANI!, about the life of Italian film star, Anna Magnani, the first foreign actress to win the Academy Award in 1956. She intimately understands the process of generating an idea for a solo show and turning that dream into a reality. In 2007, after successful runs Off-Off Broadway, LA MAGNANI! was picked up for a six-week Off-Broadway run at The Arclight Theatre. Audience members Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson, who knew Magnani personally, raved about Gambacorta's stunning character work on the legendary actress. Actor Harvey Keitel stuck around after a show one night to extend his support and compliments! And it all started with the passionate idea to take on a dream role and create work for herself. Gambacorta believes solo work is one of the most exciting and rewarding ways an actor can empower himself or herself creatively, intellectually and spiritually. She has since gone on to write two more full-length solo plays, BREAKING THE GLASS and THE VEGAS PROJECT, both produced at Stage Left Studio and is deeply committed to helping other actor's realize their solo performance dreams. Most recently, she has guided the development process and/or directed the plays of Jay Alvarez, (BEST OF NYC FRINGE, SOLO SHOW, 2011, BEST OF HOLLYWOOD FRINGE, SOLO SHOW, 2011) Marlene Nichols, Cheryl King, (in Sally Lambert's GRAPEFRUIT) and Chiara Montalto's EMERGENCY USED CANDLES, currently in rehearsals for an LA run directed by General Hospital's Ronnie Marmo. She has an M.A. in Educational Theatre From NYU and is member of The Dramatist's Guild.
