The young revolutionary Bazarov's views are clear: he wants to 'smash people' and make a 'complete clearance' in order to remake Russia. Synopsis: | Brian Friel's new version-taking liberties that only a master playwright might-invests Ibsen's social realist original with psychological realism, presenting the harridan's gradual mental breakdown as a physiological consequence of an entirely inflexible social milieu. Friel finds wry humour in historical hindsight; however, while the dated attitudes of Hedda's husband, lovers and lady companions provoke laughter from a contemporary audience, Hedda's final actions become an almost logical defense against a world that refuses her agency. Crucially, they still have the capacity to shock. -Irish Times. "[Brian Friel] has taken Ibsen's play and given it his own twist. His translation enlivens the dialogue between the characters, gives the play energy and brings out a wry and dark humour for a modern audience." -RTE.ie

For five months, the 'volunteers', who are all political prisoners, have been excavating 'from early Viking down to late Georgian'. Synopsis: | This short play examines a theme from Anton Chekhov's short story, 'The lady with the Little Dog', which Chekhov wrote in Yalta in the autumn of 1899. The Yalta Game tells the story of an accountant who holidays alone, leaving his wife and family behind in Moscow. While away, he plays the game of amorous dalliance and seduction, and happens on a young wife with her pet dog. They have a brief affair and part forever. But back home, they both find themselves obsessed by reveries and meet again to embark on a future of duplicity, ecstasy and perhaps of love.
