Synopsis: | here we are taken on an even more ambitious adventure in an isolated Perthshire glen. where a spiritual call of the wild is married to a magical sense of ritual that is in turn manipulated into a real life wonderland of the soul. In short, this is a hike with a difference, that begins at 10pm sharp with a troupe of. Portuguese drummers ushering us into the dimming landscape of rocks and waterfalls, which throb with a low musical hum as electric light shifts around selected vantage points. As one rnoves upwards. past the shrine ol sheep skulls sound-tracked by Hammer horror screeches, pausing at a huge illuminated standing stone, where a lone piper sounds a lament, sounds and visions from different levels merge into a strange collage of light and shade. Atone point a large tethered rock appears to be snoring, about to erupt into life to swat the curious interlopers that surround it. As one crosses a wooden bridge to accept a Buddhist blessing, you realise that you\re just said goodbye to the West, and are heading towards a summit that from a distance looks like a maypole, but is actually a makeshift temple. from which tentacles of worship flags hang. The descent is awash with candles, amplified chants and Tibetan singing bowls, before more familiar taped voices chime in, telling tales of strange lights, stones that grow and pacts with local monsters. | |||||
