Synopsis: | The Innocent and the Thunderbolt was written in direct response to the government cuts to Arts funding and under the guidance of former RSC playwright-in-residence (and company patron), Tarell Alvin McCraney (The Brother/Sister Plays, American Trade). The play follows the funny, tragic and at times deplorable day to day lives of professional muses, Patti Blewitt and Jude Reed. Originally appointed by the gods to inspire artists, writers and singers to paint, write and sing their praises, the millennia old Muses now inspire for personal profit. But in a contemporary London, the combined efforts of a (deceased) indie rock star, a tempestuous Aphrodite, a girl who mistakes The Kama Sutra' for a curry, a tramp with no legs and rapidly aging Greek gods, bring questions of fame, lust, love, hunger, divine interference and memory into play in this dynamic new work. | |||||
