Synopsis: | This is a brand new stage adaptation of Anna Funder's book: Stasiland: Stories From Behind The Berlin Wall. Adapted by Nick Drake and directed by Giles Croft, Stasiland will take you on a journey through a fascinating series of accounts from those individuals who resisted the East German regime and those who worked for its secret police, the Stasi. The play brings to life both the dark and the more humane sides of life in the former German Democratic Republic, telling stories of what it was like to work for the Stasi, and how those who did so have now come to terms, or not, with their pasts.

Synopsis: | Early one morning in August 1974, when the World Trade Centre had just opened, a young Frenchman astonished the world by walking a high wire between the summits of its two towers - 1,350 feet above the Manhattan streets. Philippe Petit's account of his clandestine coup has become an international best-seller. Now poet and novelist Nick Drake has adapted To Reach the Clouds for the stage. In a dentist's waiting room, 18-year-old wire walker Philippe Petit chances on a magazine article about a new building planned for New York: the World Trade Centre will be more than 100 metres higher than France's Eiffel Tower. Over the next six and a half years, as the towers rise up into the sky, Petit and a group of conspirators tackle a host of seemingly intractable difficulties. Even if they can stage a break-in and smuggle one ton of heavy equipment up 110 storeys, will they have time to execute Petit's plan and rig the wire between the towers? Headstrong and utterly driven, Petit tackles the technical problems, the risk of discovery, the fears of his friends and the appalling consequences of failure.
