Actor and playwright. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, one of nine children. Educated in the public schools there, and attended acting classes for teenagers at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Dropped out of school and served in the U.S. Air Force, 1955-59, where he was assigned to Special Services and appeared in a number of theatrical productions. Completed high school while in the service. Married; the father of three children. Graduated from the Pittsburgh Playhouse School of Drama and performed with the Irene Kaufman Players. Studied with the Actors' Workshop in New York City. Appeared in the New York stage productions of The Blacks (1963), Dutchman (1964), A Sound of Silence (1965), The Zulu and the Zayda (1965), Inherit the Wind (1970), The Guide (1978), Passing through Exotic Places: Sunstroke (1969), and The House of Leather (1970). TV appearances include the role of Dr. Price Trainor on "One Life to Live" (1971), the title role of a black private eye on the NBC-TV special "Cutter" (1972), and appearances on "Cannon" (1975), "Joe Forrester" (1976), and "Police Woman" (1976). Films include Lady Liberty (1971), The Blue Centurions (1972), and Come Back, Charleston Blue (1972).
