John Cranko was born on 15th August 1921. His parents had an acrimonious divorce and John lived with his ballet aficionado father, Herbert. Mainly known as a choreographer, working for Sadlers Wells Ballet, among the works he choreographed were "Onegin" and "Pineapple Poll". Desperate to find the love of his life he threw himself into endless one night stands and then hit the bottle when he could not find his man. On June 26th 1973 he choked to death on a transatlantic plane after suffering an allergic reaction to a sleeping pill
