Synopsis:

Spring did not come to the Kingdom of Megalomania last year. It appears it will not come again this year. King Fortunatus, the number one ruler of the Dark Ages, blames the endless winters on same-sex marriage. His gay son, Prince Leander, is married to a friar named Justin, Meanwhile, Fortunatus's wife, Queen Bathildis, constantly derides their lesbian daughter, Princess Mirabelle, who spends her days walking on point, trying to invent a new art form she calls Ballet. Freezing and starving to death, these insecure royals become more despondent when they discover their only source of entertainment, Eloy, the Court Jester, is dead, trapped in a block of ice. However, when a mysterious Window Washer appears at the palace with food and a plan for reconciliation, the young royals hope he will save them and introduce them to a warmer and more loving environment. This gay fairy tale, complete with a specialty dancer from the Isle of Lesbos and a homophobic dragon, should delight audiences of all ages and persuasions.

Notes:

The play can be performed on a bare stage. Very few technical requirements. This 30-minute love story is character-driven, and offers four meaty roles. Like the leading male character steeped in 19th century Russian literature, the play is nuanced and to a degree is reminiscent of 19th century Russian plays.

Synopsis:

The play is set in 1989 and in 2009. A middle-aged professor of Russian literature and deeply rooted in 19th century values becomes infatuated with a young high-school graduate. He kisses her only once, never has sex with her, but firmly believes that he has been unfaithful to his wife. Twenty years later, the young girl, now a grown woman and a lonely widow, sends a letter to the professor, inviting him and his wife to the bed and breakfast she owns and manages in Vermont. The professor's wife, terminally ill and prone to jealousy, reads the letter before her husband can, becomes irrationally jealous, and intercepts the letter. The consequences are tragic for the wife, but the professor and his son, after a long estrangement, come to reconciliation and a better understanding of human nature.
