Melissa Cooper. Melissa Cooper's most recent play, Little Medea, was commissioned and produced at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, where it won the 2008 Macy's New Play Prize for Young Audiences. Other plays and adaptations, including Mirandolina, Antigone Now, andThe Sternheim Project, have been produced around the country at Dallas Theater Center, Portland Stage Company, East Los Angeles Classic Theater, San Diego Repertory, and Cincinnati Playhouse. Ms. Cooper's ventriloquial performance pieces, some co-written with Eric Overmyer, have been seen in NYC at Coney Island USA, Limbo Lounge, West Bank Cafe, PS 122's Avant-garde-Arama, BACA Downtown, and Cornelia Street Cafe, as well as Seattle's Empty Space. Ms. Cooper served as Resident Dramaturg and Artistic Associate at the Dallas Theater Center, where she co-founded and produced the Big D Festival of the Unexpected to support new and experimental theater. At Portland Stage Company, she created and produced "a little festival of the unexpected." Ms. Cooper's dramaturgy includes a wide range of plays, from the Obie Award-winning premiere of Mac Wellman's Terminal Hip to Salzburg Marionette Theater's new production of The Sound of Music, directed by Richard Hamburger. Ms. Cooper is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts MFA Acting Program. She lives in New York City, where she teaches Acting at Marymount Manhattan College and serves as New Play Consultant for Echo Theatre in Dallas.
