Sri Chinmoy was born in India 1931. For 20 years he lived in a spiritual community where he practised meditation and took part in the other activities of the ashram. In 1964 he travelled to America where he began offering talks and teaching meditation. Sri Chinmoy is a prolific writer, he has written many volumes of poetry and books on a wide variety of subjects. He wrote his first plays whilst in India, and these include dramatisations of India's independence struggle. His most widely performed plays are those about great Spiritual figures. These include plays on Sri Krishna, The Buddha and Jesus Christ

Synopsis: | This is a play written by Sri Chinmoy about India's revolutionary heroes of Bengal. In particular it is a celebration of the contributions made by three famous freedom-fighters of India. Deshabandhu, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Deshapriya who came from Sri Chinmoy's own birthplace of Chittagong. Deshabandhu also known as Chitta Ranjan Das played a significant role in assuring the acquittal of Sri Aurobindo another early Indian revolutionary. Chitta Ranjan Das then went on to make his own significant contribution to the independence movement. The play is an imaginative look at the events of this time. | |||||

Synopsis: | The Life of Sri Ramachandra. This play is based on the great Indian epic The Ramayana and looks at the life of Rama. Sri Ramachandra begins life as a privileged King married to his beautiful wife Sita. Due to jealousy he is exiled with Sita to the forests for 7 years. Here in the forest Sita is captured by the evil Ravanna, King of the Demons and taken to his abode in Lanka. The play then discusses the recapture of Lanka by Rama aided by the monkey Chief Hanuman and his loyal friend Lakshmana. | |||||
