Synopsis: | Based on Edward II by Christopher Marlowe. Weak Edward (Eduardo, el débil) is a modern performance based on the old tragedy of Edward II, King of England at the beginning of the 14th century. This is the story of a Latin American Dictator who tries to be a king, but has strange habits. He loves his dearest friend Gustavo, more than his wife or his country and he has to pay the social cost of his forbidden affair. This version is a tragi-comedy, parody of the classic Marlowe tragedy. Elements of black humour, the grotesque and melodrama, with flashbacks take the main characters through their fate. Eduardo's inner conflict lies between his public image as a charismatic leader and his private life with a male lover. Here the barons are ladies in lovely dresses who are so ashamed of this weak King that they are willing to do whatever they or their husbands can do to re-establish order in their Kingdom. Isabel, the rejected First Lady, is forced to be against her abusive and violent husband in order to save the country. | |||||
