Synopsis: | The five pieces of your broken heart are given form to decide your destiny, in this moving piece based on the candomble ritual of Brazilian religion. Contaminated, Romantic, True, Kind and Blind Love all put in for life or death in a complex tale of passion and confused genders. With powerful physical theatre, dance and songs, the different cases are put, testing the theory that "Lovers must be protected from the evils of the world." Although steeped in ritual, it is that timeless background that lends the vulgar modernities of voicemail and phones a real poetry. True Love seems to be shown to be enough, and the reality of Blind Love as a triumph of the heart over the imperfect body seems too to be proved, but the bold and ambiguous ending reminds the audience that real theatre never pretends life is clear cut. Very, very fringe; marvellous. (rating: 5/5 [mw]) | |||||
