I truly believe that it's possible to wake up one morning and write something that changes everything. At any age, at any time, you can write from the imagination.' Jez Butterworth's playwriting debut, Mojo, was staged at the Royal Court in 1995, and was acclaimed as 'one of the most dazzling Royal Court main stage debuts in years' (Time Out). Since then his plays have been premiered at the Royal Court, at the Almeida Theatre and at the Atlantic Theater in New York. Jerusalem ran for two hit seasons in the West End, as well as on Broadway. His films include Birthday Girl, Fair Game and an adaptation of Mojo.

Synopsis: | Warren and Clark are a double act, scrubbing around in a kitsch bedsit on the wrong side of fame. They tap away at typewriters, trying to top each other. Each has differing notions of "Huge", which they unravel in hallucianatory passages of jarring poetic beauty. | |||||

| "My dad said he jumped buses. Horseboxes. Jumped an aqueduct once. He was gonna jump Stonehenge but the council put a stop to it." On St George's Day, the morning of the local county fair, Johnny Byron, local waster and modern day Pied Piper, is a wanted man. The council officials want to serve him an eviction notice, his children want their dad to take them to the fair, Troy Whitworth wants to give him a serious kicking and a motley crew of mates want his ample supply of drugs and alcohol. | Silver Johnny is the new singing sensation, straight out of a low-life Soho clubland bar in 1958. His success could be the big break for two dead-end workers in the bar, if they play their cards right and trust the owner of the place to make a good deal with the local money mogul. Before they can dream what to do with all the money they'll make, the owner turns up dead, Silver Johnny disappears, the second in command takes over the bar and power positions are juggled about. Going through the uppers and downers filched from pocketbooks, and trying to keep a lid on the precocious anger of the dead owner's son, the band of losers figures out the law of the streets and who killed the boss, but not in time to save one of their own, and perhaps their souls. | |||||
