British born, Australian based, Julia Britton worked as a journalist and university teacher before she became a playwright. Her plays have had productions at, New Theatre, Griffin Theatre [Sydney], The Stage Company [Adelaide], The Blue Room [Perth], St. Martin's Theatre, La Mama Theatre, Performing Arts Productions, Fly-On-The-Wall Theatre, Theatreworks with workshops at Playbox Theatre[Melbourne], Studio 62, Budgie Lung and playreadings at State Theatre of South Australia[Adelaide], with Geoffrey Rush and Melbourne Arts Centre in conjunction with The Golden Summers Exhibition [Westpac Gallery], Melbourne Theatre Company and the South Australian Writer's Theatre. Her celebrated play: Miles Franklin and the Rainbow's End was chosen for performance at the San Antonio Festival, Texas, produced by The Stage Company of South Australia and also performed at the Festival Centre and more recently at Melbourne's Theatreworks and Perth's The Blue Room [as part of the inaugural Perth Festival]. She has written and adapted numerous plays for Fly-On-The-Wall Theatre including the highly acclaimed site-specific: Lady Chatterley's Lover [seven seasons nationally around Australia], Women in Love [Rippon Lea] Loving Friends [two seasons at Rippon Lea], An Indian Summer [Rippon Lea], I've Danced with a Girl who Danced with the Prince of Wales [Rippon Lea], Good Morning Midnight! [La Mama], Sunset Children [La Mama], Little Lord Fauntleroy [Rippon Lea], Seven Little Australians [Rippon Lea], The Singing Forest [Theatreworks], The Secret Garden [seven seasons including Adelaide], Anne of Green Gables [two seasons in Perth and Melbourne], The Yellow Book [Mietta's], Perks [Mietta's], The White Rose and the Blue [Melbourne Town Hall], A Singular Man [two seasons in Melbourne at the Old Treasury Building and The Hong Kong Fringe Festival], The Lost at Chapel Off Chapel and most recently Five Minute Call at Melbourne's iconic The Butterfly Club. She has won the AWGIE Monte Miller Award in 1982 for her play Exits and Entrances and was nominated for a Green Room Award for her short play: In Transit [produced at St. Martin's Theatre] in 1995.
