Consecrated Ground

In 1965, Africville, the largest and oldest black community in Canada was bulldozed into memory. What was lost to the politicians of Halifax was an inconvenience, an eysore. What was lost to the people whose roots ran deep through the once-vibrant community was an entire way of life. Withtremendous wit and gravity, George Boyd resurrects Africville on the verge of extinction, making us a gift of people believable in their vulnerabilities, their courage and their outrage

Le Code Noir

Set in 18th century France, Le Code Noir tells the story of Joseph Boulogne, composer, musician, and swordsman. Some even say he was an inspiration for Alexander Dumas' Three Musketeers and that he had an affair with Marie Antoinette. He lived during 'Le Code Noir', a decree that set the conditions for slavery in France. This law, often enforced on Boulogne by his own father, was forever in his shadow as he fought to become the most influential composer of his time.
