Caterpillars and spiders become giant, the house becomes Noah's Ark, a rollercoaster turns into a Spitfire - there are fiery dragons on the bed covers and tendrilled jungles in the greenhouse. But Granpa is an old man and his health is failing. In a heartbreaking finale Emily arrives to play at Granpa's house one day, but finds him gone forever. A beautiful and sensitive study of that special relationship between old and young.

From The Story By Raymond Briggs
Synopsis:
The Passion of Mary' is a meditation on Mary, the mother of Jesus. The text was adapted by Howard Blake from biblical and other sources to create a powerful 50-minute 'dramatic oratorio' for soloists, choir and orchestra. All roles are sung and whilst its London premiere at the Cadogan Hall was performed as an unacted concert piece the work itself is highly dramatic and might well lend itself to a more staged treatment

Parts Other:

Notes:
Howard Blake's 'The Station' employs traditional harmonies and well-established operatic conventions to create a 50-minute send-up of the medium. With classic romantic soprano/tenor duets (albeit about Maseratis and Dartford Warblers!), barbershop quintets, dramatic arias, clever ensembles and even an Elvis Presley take-off, the work takes us from Bel Canto to Can-Belto and back. It is a work that intentionally doesn't take itself seriously.
