Synopsis: | A group of friends who work for a South London candle factory in 1914 are torn at the outbreak of the Great War between volunteering or staying with their friends in the workforce. Caught up in patriotic fervor, they enlist by lying about their age and within a year find themselves on the eve of the biggest battle ever fought by the British Army - The Somme. The story follows their experiences though five months of the battle, and those of the girls they left behind at the candle factory. | |||||
