Synopsis:

Heard the one about the deaf army officer with a wife and two kids, who gave it all up, aged 31, to train as an actor? Well, neither has Tim Barlow, his hearing having been kiboshed by the new rifle he used as a squaddie in the 1950s military. Barlow's tale leads £rom the jungles of Malaya, via the moon, to London's glittering West End, and adds to BAC's short but seductive line of autobiographical solo shows that includes the work of Guy Dartnell and Niall 'Hungarian Bird Festival' Ashdown. The show zeroes in on the pivotal moment when Barlow had to choose between the army and his acting ambitions. (There aren't many lives changed by 'The Mousetrap' - but a trip to see that durable pot-boiler was what sparked Barlow's theatrical dream.) 'EarfUll' clips through the years preceding that moment-of truth, in story, fantasy sequence and dialogue - and, given his deafness, Barlow demonstrates a remarkable feel for tones of voice, including that of a brusque ENT specialist and a blase drama school principal.
