Alex Austin is a Los Angeles-based writer, editor and teacher. His full-length playShotgun was produced at the Santa Monica Playhouse, Santa Monica, California, in 1999, and ran for two months. His full-length play The Amazing Brenda Strider ran for six weeks in 2000 at Glaxa Studios, Los Angeles. The Amazing Brenda Strider was a Backstage West Critic's Pick and received a Maddy Award for Excellence in Playwriting. Brenda was also a winner in the Fullerton College Playwrights Festival and runner-up in the Festival of Firsts. Brendahad a six-week run in the fall of 2002 at Portland's CoHo Theatre. Presented by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, Mr. Austin's play Mimosa received a production at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in March 2002. His fiction and nonfiction has been published in numerous magazines, and he was the editor ofHollywood and PSA magazines. He currently lives with his family in West Hills, California. He is a graduate of UCLA and has a Master's degree in history from California State University, Northridge.

Synopsis: | Married 18 years and a mother of three, Jayne Sheehan has made an agreement with her husband, Ron, that will allow her to have an extramarital relationship. When Jayne, a student of philosophy and a fierce champion of truth, reveals to Ron, a liberal political journalist, that she has begun the affair, he denies the agreement's existence. Jayne challenges Ron to accept in reality what he has bargained for in the abstract and pursues the affair, confident that Ron will accept and that no damage will be done to their marriage.
