Notes: | SSS-T-O-N-E-DDD, the second installment from theatrical/visual artist Arthur Maximillian Adair's seven part series of performance pieces entitled "Essays on Fireworks." The series is devoted to exploring the role and circumstances of the individual living through the process of globalization. The first installment of the series, "Sound of the Sun," a mythological theatrical installation, premiered in The Club at La MaMa in January, 2002 with a company of 52 international artists. It played to sold out audiences, was extended an extra two weeks, and subsequently appeared in the CivitArte Festival and LaMaMa Umbria International Theatre Festival in Italy during August, 2002 and to the DUMBO Arts Festival in Brooklyn in October, 2002
Synopsis: | "SSS-T-O-N-E-DDD" is a personal and public statement which takes an "objective, honest and candid" look at America's current state and history through the mind of Jimmy Stillborne, a young experimental theatrical artist living in Coney Island who accidentally overdoses on LSD after attending a symposium on the future of experimental theater in the United States. Texts are by Walt Whitman, Thomas Jefferson, William Shakespeare, The King James Bible, Robert Frost, Malcolm X, Robert F. Kennedy, George Orwell, and the artist's own musings. Infused with popular rock classics and original live music and set within the folds of the American flag, "SSS-T-O-N-E-DDD" is an intimate embodiment of the contemporary American internal conflict of pride and shame. Arthur Maximillian Adair, a sensitive and commanding solo performance artist, together with composer S-dog, performs for your pondering patriotic pleasure a straightforward, intense and challenging contemporary performance piece of reflection and engagement.
