Laura Abbott is a native Vermonter who will earn her B.A. in Drama in May 2011 from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. Her one-act, Trapped, was performed at several venues around Vermont, was a finalist in Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Festival, and is currently published through Playscripts, Inc. Several of her unpublished plays have also been produced, including The Memory Project (IC Players), The One (No Bucks: New Works Festival), and A Scene from: In the Eye (IC Players Showcase). Laura was most recently seen at IC in the first staged production of Robert Moss' Cashel Byron's Profession portraying Adelaide Gisborne. To contrast the Shaw adaptation, her most recent work outside of college theatre was her performance as Mrs. Pinkerton in the St. Michael's Playhouse staging of the children's musical Pinkalicious.

Synopsis: | The Memory Project focuses on the Larson family as they struggle to cope with their loved one's memory loss (a complication of Korsakoff's Syndrome caused by alcohol abuse.) The play examines not only how memories are fundamental to who we are as human beings, but also cautions against avoidance and denial as responses to loss. Before the Larsons' world shatters completely, the youngest family member-in either a move of bravery or defiance-decides to drag all of their skeletons out of the closet. . . | |||||
